WEIRD SCIENCE ===================================================================== 1) What is the use of those little strings that grow on bananas? From Johnny Browne: Reply: Those are put there by the grocery store as a guard against shoplifting! If an attempt to spirit a banana past the checkout first paying for it is made, those little antennae give off a mini microwave alarm signal, which is amplified by the bar code reader into an extremely noticeable distress signal. So if your goal is to shoplift bananas, take a tip from this scientist and peel them in the store first. ===================================================================== 2) Why do dogs chase cars and what would they do if they caught one? From D-Weaver: Reply: Dogs chase cars because they are trying to tell the drivers of those cars something very important. What that something is, the driver, and ultimately science, will only know - if the dog catches the car. Unfortunately, no dog has ever successfully caught a car to transmit the bytes of information he had in store. Dogs that have caught up with the cars, ended up snapping at the car tires. This usually ends the dog's life. So, because one important variable in the equation has ceased to exist, we cannot come up with a solution. Science can only state that dogs will always chase cars and will never be able to get across what they are trying to say! =====================================================================
